ESPN to Launch Local N.Y. Site

ESPN plans to unveil a New York-focused Web site on April 2.

The launch of is timed to coincide with the ESPN2 telecast between the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on April 4. will also cover the game.

Leon Carter, most recently the sports editor of the New York Daily News, will serve as executive editor of ESPN New York.

Charter advertisers on the new site include StubHub, Anheuser-Busch and Audi.

The New York local site is the fifth site ESPN will have launched since the first debuted a year ago in Chicago. Since then, ESPN has rolled out local sites in Boston, Dallas and Los Angeles. In January, more than 6.2 million fans visited one of the four sites, spending more than 20.4 million minutes, per comScore.
