Emily Smith Joins WCBS-TV as General Assignment Reporter

Emily Smith has been featured on WCBS/Channel 2 for the past year as a reporter for CBS Money Watch. In that capacity, Smith provided live business reports on CBS 2 News This Morning. She has also filled in as anchor on the network’s overnight news program Up to the Minute.

Now, Channel 2 viewers will be seeing a lot more of Smith. She has been hired as a general assignment reporter.

“Emily Smith is a highly experienced and accomplished reporter,” said WCBS-TV news director David Friend.  “We are thrilled to have her extensive New York experience added to our superb CBS 2 reporting team.”

A native of upstate New York, Smith previously had a three-year stint as Long Island reporter for WABC-TV.

Smith has covered a variety of stories, two of her favorite being the miraculous landing of Flight 1549 in the Hudson River in January 2009 and Pope Benedict’s visit to New York in 2008.

“I am blessed to be a part of the CBS 2 news team,” Smith said.  “While working at network on the overnight shift, I did a couple of live MoneyWatch reports each day for CBS 2’s morning show. I noticed quickly it’s a solid newsroom with a top notch team.”
