6.6M Americans Have Been Unemployed for Six Months or More

The big news of the day was the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report that showed the U.S. lost 130 thousand-plus jobs in July. But a staggering stat hidden in the report was that 45 percent of all unemployed citizens have been looking for jobs for over six months.

That number amounts to 6.6 million Americans sitting idly by for over half-a-year. As The Wall Street Journal points out, the longer someone sits unemployed, the more difficult it is to find that next job.
