Carolina Panthers Revealed Their Season Schedule by Creating an Amazing Ode to Video Games

If you’re not a big fan of the Carolina Panthers, you probably haven’t been overly interested in the NFL team’s 2019-20 schedule. But if you’re a complete dork, that’s all about to change.

The team just released a video about its season matchups, and in a moment of a truly inscrutable genius, the franchise decided to turn the schedule into an homage to video games past and present.

The clip that emerged is so charmingly nostalgic, gamers of any age will feel compelled to watch through to the end:

While NFL teams don’t know their exact schedules until shortly before the dates are revealed, they do know which teams they’ll be up against, which probably helped the Panthers’ digital team put together a concept this ambitious and then switch the order of video games around to suit the final schedule once it was released.

Here’s a list of the games in the order of their appearance:

• Pitfall (1982)
• Cruis’n USA (1994)
• Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (1999)
• Madden NFL ’95 (1994)
• FIFA 2012 (2011)
• Halo (2001)
• The Oregon Trail (circa 1978)
• NBA Jam (1993)
• WWF No Mercy (2000)
• Pokemon Go (2016)
• GoldenEye 007 (1997)
• Super Mario Kart (1992)
• Pac-Man (1980)
• Sonic the Hedgehog (1991)
• Words With Friends (2009)
• Mortal Kombat II (1993)

It’s probably safe to guess the team didn’t secure rights to feature every one of those games, but hopefully the game companies will be willing to overlook any trademark issues in favor of appreciating such a loving ode to gaming history.

The video was an immediate hit with fans and video game lovers, not to mention those soundly in the middle of the resulting Venn diagram.
