Mad scientist Dr. Dre whips up HP laptops

Headshot of David Griner

Most laptops are made on assembly lines in China. Not the new HP Envy, which is apparently crafted in small batches at the futuristic lab of Dr. Dre, as shown in the ad below. Well, they probably are made in China, but the Envy is still the first to include the "Beats Audio" software designed for HP by Dre's engineers to create superior sound through headphones or speakers. (Which makes me wonder how many people are still playing music through their laptops instead of iPods, but I digress.) Also notable is the ad's soundtrack, "Under Pressure," a long-awaited collaboration with Jay-Z that will be featured on Dre's upcoming album, Detox. A rough (and underwhelming) cut of the song was leaked last month, frustrating Dre and forcing him to explain that it still had a long way to go. Now I'd say it's sounding pretty good. Or at least, it sounds good in Evil Dr. Dre's Secret Science Lab. Via The Boombox.
