Amazon Studios has a new head of marketing.

The company named Warner Bros. veteran Sue Kroll as its new chief, reporting directly to head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke.

Kroll will begin her role immediately, overseeing global marketing strategy and campaigns for the streamer’s movies and TV series, including any future theatrical. The executive has been serving as a marketing consultant for the past six months, leading the rollout of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings spinoff series, The Rings of Power.

“Sue has done an outstanding job leading the marketing efforts for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, our biggest premiere in the history of Prime Video,” Salke wrote in an internal memo late Monday. “She is widely respected, with deep industry knowledge, extensive experience and strong relationships with talent and throughout the creative community. She is a seasoned professional, having marketed projects ranging from blockbuster global releases to award-winning niche film and television projects for over 30 years.”

The company’s new head of marketing launched her own production house in 2018, and the projects in production and development, both in film and television, will now come to Amazon Studios as first-look deals.

Prior to Kroll & Co., the executive served as president of worldwide marketing and distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures, overseeing movies such as Argo, Dunkirk, Mad Max: Fury Road, Inception and all of the Harry Potter films.

Kroll, who left Warner Bros. in 2018, is replacing former Amazon Prime Video and Studios chief marketing officer Ukonwa Ojo, who suddenly departed in June, just two months before the debut of two of Prime Video’s biggest programs ever: The Rings of Power and the exclusive launch of NFL’s Thursday Night Football.

Ojo had joined Amazon toward the end of 2020, coming over from MAC, where she spearheaded the brand’s marketing efforts. She replaced Andy Donkin, who moved into a separate marketing role at Amazon.
