Yahoo! Taps Braun to Drive Media, Entertainment

NEW YORK The former chairman of ABC Entertainment Television Group Lloyd Braun is joining Yahoo! on Nov. 15 as head of its media and entertainment division.

Based in Santa Monica, Calif., he will oversee the Web portal’s content relating to movies, TV, entertainment, music, games, finance, news, weather, sports, health and kids.

“The growing consumer demand for compelling content on the Internet and rapid proliferation of broadband is an exciting growth opportunity for Yahoo!, and we are committed to further bolstering what are already the leading content properties on the Web,” said chief operating officer Dan Rosensweig, to whom Braun will report, in a statement.

From January 2002 to April of this year, Braun, 46, was chairman of ABC Entertainment Television Group, and before that, he spent two-and-a-half years as co-chairman of The Walt Disney Company division. During his tenure there, he initiated and oversaw the development and production of programs such as My Wife and Kids, Alias, Extreme Makeover, Lost and Desperate Housewives, among others.

He also worked at Buena Vista Television Productions and Brillstein-Grey Entertainment and practiced entertainment law.
