Wieden + Ken nedy’s top planner, Chris Riley, has left to start his own business.

Riley, 43, had been with the Portland, Ore., agency for 11 years, most recently as global director of strategic planning. He established Wieden’s planning department in 1991, growing it to 13 employees worldwide, including seven in the U.S.

His new venture, Studio Riley, will offer design, brand identity and business communications services on a project basis.

“It’s time to do something different and evolve a little bit,” said Riley, adding that he is interested in serving as an “incubator” for emerging brands.
