Wheeling Island Deals Out Ads via Smith Brothers

CHICAGO Smith Brothers Advertising gives gambling a romantic touch in its first campaign for Wheeling Island casino.

A TV spot from the Pittsburgh agency depicts people going on “dates” with various slot machines. Against a disco soundtrack, one woman cuddles up to one of the contraptions on a picnic while a man settles in with a machine against a roaring fire. “When you find the one, you just know,” says a voiceover before introducing the West Virginia-based casino and the tagline, “The better bet.”

The campaign, which broke during the Independence Day weekend, also features outdoor and radio. The client is expected to spend more than $1 million on advertising in Columbus, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Wheeling, W.Va., and points in-between, according to the agency.

Smith Brothers won the account last March.
