Thought Leader

Aside from money and perks, what did it really take to uproot June Blocklin from her life in New York for the new job of executive vice president at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston?
How about a little thoughtfulness.
A couple of years ago, Hill, Holliday chairman Jack Connors lured Terry Allen from Emporio Armani on Newbury Street, where Connors was a loyal customer, to be director of corporate events.
In addition to planning the shop’s memorable 30th anniversary bash, Allen arranges heartfelt gestures that keep Hill, Holliday at the top of the service business.
“Jack is the master planner,” Allen remarked. “I just make sure that whatever he wants gets done the Hill, Holliday way.” Last week, for example, Allen shopped for gift baskets that would greet potential clients at their hotel and arranged to send a hot meal to a client felled by pneumonia.
As for Blocklin, her decision to join Hill, Holliday was cemented when Allen, the agency’s unofficial director of thoughtfulness, called to ask how she could help with Blocklin and her family with their transition to Boston.
