At the Clio Awards in Miami last week, the 48-year-old commercial director got off on the right foot (the mellower one, anyway) by humbly accepting a lifetime achievement honor and claiming a newfound appreciation for collaboration and friendliness. He attributed the change to a realization he had while directing the controversial American History X—that he was obliged to take care of the people in his productions, not just his own creative vision.
