The Chicago office of mcgarrybowen has landed creative duties on Rust-Oleum after a review, the agency has confirmed.

In making the selection, client vp of marketing and R&D Kurt Hardy cited the Dentsu shop’s “solid insights and breakthrough creative” on what he described as a “tough strategic assignment.”

The other finalists were Energy BBDO in Chicago, Interpublic Group’s Hill, Holliday in Boston and the incumbent, independent Periscope in Minneapolis, confirmed Jones Lundin Beals, the Chicago-based consultancy that managed the process.

Major media spending on the brand totaled nearly $6 million in the first 11 months of 2009 — about the same as in all of 2008, according to Nielsen.
