Riney Adds Staffers to Service HP

Publicis & Hal Riney here has added several executives to the creative and production teams handling the expanded Hewlett-Packard account.

The agency last week named Sam Walsh svp, director of broadcast production on HP. Also, former Goodby, Silverstein & Partners copywriter Eric Osterhaus and former TBWA\Chiat\Day associate creative director Stephen Mietelski were each named associate creative director and copywriter.

Sources said the additions were spurred by the recent expansion of the shop’s HP business as a result of the client’s merger with Compaq. Riney now handles all product advertising worldwide for such offerings as printers and servers. It also recently picked up accounts such as Penn & Teller, The North Face and several key pieces of Allied Domecq, which was won by the Publicis Groupe.

“It’s great to be hiring, and the vibe here is fantastic lately,” said Tim Maleeny, svp, director of strategic development. “We’re happy to be able to get this caliber of people in here.”

Walsh worked as broadcast director at Riney from 1995-99. He was most recently president of New Nomads, a company that works with ad agencies on interactive and other projects.

Osterhaus worked on Nike, Pottery Barn and HP at Goodby. Mietelski worked on Levi’s, Nissan and the Starz! channel at TBWA\C\D.

The agency also named Mike Barti vp, creative director and copywriter. Jerry Underwood, who recently worked at Butler, Shine & Stern, was named art director, teaming with Patrick Condo, who was named copywriter after a stint at Ogilvy & Mather, New York.
