CHICAGO J.C. Penney Corp. has appointed Mike Boylson executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Boylson will replace John Budd, who is retiring.

Boylson, 48, assumes his new position April 1 and will report to Vanessa Castagna, chairman and chief executive officer of the Plano, Texas, retailer.

Previously, Boylson was vice president and director of marketing planning and promotions. He joined J.C. Penney in 1978 as a management trainee.

Budd, 68, joined J.C. Penney in February 2001.
