Palmer Promotes 2 at Tribal DDB

NEW YORK — In his first major moves since joining Tribal DDB three months ago as general manager of its New York headquarters, Robert Palmer has promoted creative director Steve Hicks to managing director/cd. Palmer also has elevated group account director Kristy Grimes to strategic director and made two new hires.

In his expanded role, Hicks, 34, will continue to oversee the eight-person creative department and will now help run the 26-staffer office with Palmer, to whom he reports. (Prior to joining Tribal DDB, Palmer, 52, was for 12 years a direct marketing and interactive consultant.)

Hicks joined the DDB i-shop in 1999 from Modem Media in New York, where he worked on Hasbro and Dow Chemicals. There, he first met Tribal DDB Worldwide CEO Matt Freeman, a former executive cd at Modem.

Grimes, 32, a three-year Tribal DDB veteran, will focus on how to best use the resources of DDB and other Omnicom companies. “She will [develop] a closer alliance with the account people, media people and research,” said Palmer, to whom Grimes reports. She formerly worked on New York State Lottery and Merck, among others.

The i-shop has also brought on Laura User, 34, as an account director for Abbott Laboratories, and Annie Park, 27, as an account executive working on Pepsi’s Fruitworks and New York State Lottery, among others. Previously, User was strategy consultant at Siegelgale’s Healthcare Group, and Park was an account executive at Martha Stewart OmniMedia’s international division.

Tribal DDB in New York claims about $6 million in revenue, according to Palmer.
