Melinda Smolkin has joined O’Neal & Prelle in Hartford as a senior account executive, overseeing clients such as St. Francis Care and Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Connecticut. Smolkin previously served as marketing director of the Touro Infirmary in New Orleans and has worked at Bauerlein, also in New Orleans, and D’Arcy, MacManus & Masius in San Francisco.
Holly Hansen has been promoted from traffic manager to director of print production at North Castle Partners in Stamford.
Henrik Colliander has been advanced from account manager to sales director at Madison International Sales Co. in Stamford.
Karen Carper has been named senior vice president and director of strategic alliances at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston. In this new position, she will help key clients address strategic marketing and brand positioning issues. Carper had been a vice president at CSC Index in Cambridge.
Mark Nardi has formed his own independent writing firm, Mark Nardi Creative, in Needham. He plans to create copy for both print and broadcast accounts throughout New England. Nardi previously served as vice president and associate creative director at Arnold Communications in Boston. He also has worked at Pagano Schenck & Kay; Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos; and Houston Herstek Favat, all in Boston.
Wallwork Curry in Boston has announced the following additions to its staff: Sharon Kallander, media coordinator; Frank Perone, art director; and Nicole Parente, mechanical artist. Parente had worked with Emcomm, the student-run advertising agency of Emerson College in Boston.
BBL in Acton has tapped Michael Vaserman as systems administrator. Kevin Hart also has joined the agency as senior graphic designer. He previously ran his own firm, Hart Associates, and had served as a senior graphic designer at Harvard University in Cambridge.
Ted Nelson has been promoted to associate creative director at Pagano Schenck & Kay in Boston. He had been a senior copywriter. Dorothy Urlich has been advanced to creative services director from manager of traffic and creative services. Courtney Clark has joined the shop as an account executive, overseeing the Wall Covering Council of America, A.T. Cross and Media 100 accounts. She had been with McCann-Erickson in San Francisco.
Natick-based Ullo International has appointed Charles Shively publisher of Application Development Trends magazine. Shively has a dozen years of technology publishing experience, holding top sales positions at Dr. Dobb’s Journal and Microsoft Systems Journal.
