McCann, Cranin Part Company

NEW YORK Worldwide creative director Jonathan Cranin has parted ways with McCann Worldgroup, the Interpublic Group agency said.

The 52-year-old Cranin, who learned of his fate today, said he would take some time off before making his next career move.

“McCann has been my second family for 14 years, but life’s too short,” said Cranin in a statement. “I want to spend time with my first family before I go on to the next thing.”

Cranin was part of the team that helped the agency win the MasterCard and Microsoft accounts in 1999 and is often credited with writing the line, “There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else, there’s MasterCard.”

Cranin has also done key work for clients such as Coca-Cola, Nestle and Johnson & Johnson during his 14 years at the agency, and he recently had a hand in crafting the “Army Strong” campaign for the U.S. Army.

Prior to his global role, Cranin was evp, chief creative officer, North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Before coming to McCann in 1994, Cranin had been an evp and group creative director at Wells Rich Greene BDDP.

He will not be replaced.
