Mazda Realigns Marketing; Advances Davis

LOS ANGELES Ford’s Mazda North America is reorganizing its marketing division following the departure of one of its key marketing executives, the automaker said.

Robert Davis has been named senior vice president of marketing and product development, a new position. He replaces vice president of marketing Kristen Simmons, who resigned to become SVP of consumer marketing for Gateway [Adweek Online, June 11].

Davis, a 13-year Mazda veteran, assumes leadership of the marketing division in addition to his responsibilities for the production development and strategy division.

He reports to John Mendel, executive vice president and chief operating office for the automaker in Irvine, Calif.

“This new position allows us to more closely align our marketing and product development activities to enhance Mazda’s marketing presence,” said Mendel in a statement.

Mazda has also created two new positions, both of which will report to Davis. Eric Johnston, director of model line marketing, has been named marketing director, responsible for all operational marketing functions. A new director of product strategy who will oversee the product marketing and advanced activities groups, will be announced later this month.
