The Martin Agency is one of four finalists selected by General Motors in its review for the$20 million Hummer account.

Competing against Martin of Richmond, Va., are incumbent Pyro Brand Development, teamed with The Richards Group, both Dallas; McCann-Erickson, Troy, Mich.; and Modernista!, Boston.

GM last year acquired marketing rights to Hummer, which is made by AM General in South Bend, Ind. The civilian version of the military’s wide-bodied utility vehicle went into consumer distribution following the Persian Gulf conflict.

The increased marketing budget for the brand, which spent less than $1 million last year, is due to the planned introduction of an updated version, the Hummer H2, in 2002.
