Jean-Michel Carlo to Leave Havas

BOSTON?Jean-Michel Carlo, chairman and CEO of Havas Advertising’s Diversified Agencies Group and a member of the executive committee, is leaving the French holding company.

His departure had been somewhat expected, as the DAG unit –which includes 70 shops specializing mainly in direct marketing, design and public relations — is being dismantled, and most of its agencies absorbed by Havas’ other networks: Arnold, Euro RSCG and Media Planning.

“I have been a keen advocate of the new structure and I am sure the agencies that were part of DAG will continue to thrive,” Carlo said in a statement. He had joined Paris-based Havas in mid-1997 from BDDP Worldwide, where he had been vice chairman of global operations. “As for the future, I intend now to take some time to think about the new challenges ahead,” he said.

DAG’s largest holding by far is Wilton, Conn.-based Brann Worldwide, which has roughly $1 billion in overall billings and offices in some 15 countries.

New Havas network affiliations for Brann and other DAG agencies are expected to be finalized within the next two weeks.
