American Legacy Foundation Preps Review

BOSTON—Pile and Co. in the first quarter will solicit shops to pitch the American Legacy Foundation’s creative account, according to client evp of marketing Chris Cullen, who hired the Boston consultancy last week to conduct the review. Maxxcom’s Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami, and Havas’ Arnold, Boston, are invited to defend. Still undecided is whether media chores with Arnold MPG will also be reviewed. Legacy earlier this month launched an internal audit to find ways to streamline its media operation. That process continues at least through year’s end. The client spent more than $100 million on ads in 2000, but cut its outlay to $60 million last year to conserve funds. Legacy said it has set aside $584 million to extend the “Truth” anti-smoking campaign once funding provided by tobacco companies under the Master Settlement Agreement ends next year.

Data Provider Signs Agency Subscribers

ATLANTA—Since the August launch of its interactive component, The List has added five new clients. The Atlanta data provider targets marketing and advertising decision makers, according to founder Morgan Shorey. Ad shops signing up for the $2,100 per year service include The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., Fallon of Minneapolis, Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; and Young & Rubicam and Bozell, both in New York.

Huey/Paprocki Brands WeatherBug for AWS

ATLANTA—Huey/Paprocki has created a national branding campaign for online application WeatherBug. The Atlanta agency will launch print ads in interactivepublication Media Post this month. Spending is undisclosed. WeatherBug was developed by AWS Convergence Technologies of Gaithersburg, Md.

Titan to Promote New Product From Rinnai

ATLANTA—The Titan Network has been selected to provide public relations and promotional services for Rinnai North America. The Atlanta shop will work with cross-town ad agency Jarls & Lawrence to launch Continuum, a hot-water system made by the Japanese manufacturer. Billings for the combined effort are estimated at $5 million. Print ads will appear in Good Housekeeping, Architectural Digest and Builder News. Titan will develop cross promotions on cable channel HGTV. Rinnai N.A. is headquartered in Peachtree City, Ga.

Mullen Becomes a Contender for Bahamas

BOSTON—Mullen has been added to the list of agencies pitching the $10-12 million Bahamas Ministry of Tourism account, a client representative confirmed. The Interpublic Group shop in Wenham, Mass., joins three previously known contenders: independent HDC, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Publicis Groupe’s Fallon, Minneapolis and New York; and Omnicom’s Martin/Williams, Minneapolis, the rep said. Trade ad incumbent Irma S. Mann, Strategic Marketing, Boston, has withdrawn to pursue the Barbados tourism business. Consumer ad incumbent Bozell, New York—believing it was unlikely to prevail in the pitch—recruited Mullen, hoping to keep the business in the IPG stable, sources said. Client and agency executives either did not return calls or declined comment.
