Ogilvy Chicago Lays Off 12 Percent of Staff

CHICAGO—Ogilvy & Mather’s office here laid off 20 employees across all disciplines, or about 12 percent of its staff, according to an agency representative. The shop cited the tough economic climate and reduced client spending. Last month, Ogilvy opted not to defend the $15-20 million Illinois Lottery account when the contract came up for review, but it has no other recent major account losses. Last year the shop, which is down to 150 employees, laid off about 20 staffers.
