Siebel Leaves TBWA\C\D for Riney

SAN FRANCISCO—Siebel Systems has moved its $40 million account from TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif., to Publicis & Hal Riney here, according to sources. The switch comes roughly two months after TBWA\C\D won the business. The agency is said to have presented the client with a possible campaign when Siebel abruptly departed. Sources said Riney was awarded the business shortly thereafter.

Burnett Tech Closes in San Francisco

CHICAGO—Leo Burnett Technology Group has shuttered its 10-person office in San Francisco. An agency representative cited the downturn in technology spending as the cause.

National U. Launches Ad Review

LOS ANGELES—National University, a private higher-education institution with 24 learning centers throughout California, is reviewing its estimated $3 million account. Select Resources International in Los Angeles is leading the review; it has not been determined whether or not media buying and planning will be bundled. The account had been at Big Bang Idea Engineering in San Diego for two years; Big Bang is not defending. Proposals are due April 5; a decision is expected in mid-June. Big Bang created mainly newspaper ads for the San Diego-based client. The tagline: “Learn to succeed.”

DNA Splits With Consolidated Restaurants

LOS ANGELES—DNA Brand Mechanics, Seattle, and Consolidated Restaurants are parting ways after only a year. The Seattle restaurant group owns and operates Metropolitan Grill, Elliott’s Oyster House, Union Square Grill and Hiram’s at the Locks.

Nissan North America’s Infiniti division is launching an estimated $30-50 million campaign for the 2002 Q45 sedan. Created by TBWA\Chiat\Day, Playa del Rey, Calif., ads feature the new tagline “Accelerating the future” and voiceovers by actress Natasha Richardson. … Mercury kicks off a campaign April 16 for its 2002 Mountaineer positioning the SUV as urban and sophisti cated. Created by Young & Rubicam, Irvine, Calif., the effort consists of TV, print, Internet and direct response ads, as well as event marketing. … Software company Peregrine Systems, San Diego, has launched a global ad campaign stressing its ability to engender “frictionless business.” The TV and print campaign was created by Marsteller Advertising in New York.
