AARP Set to Select HeadQuarters

DALLAS—HeadQuarters Advertising appears poised to win the $10-15 million Hispanic account of the AARP (formerly the American Association of Retired Persons), following a review. The agency confirmed last week it has entered financial negotiations with the Washington, D.C.-based organization, which is making its first Latino marketing outreach to seniors aged 50-plus. The account will go to the San Antonio office of HeadQuarters, which is based in San Francisco. Other finalists for the account were Cartel Creativo, San Antonio, and La Agencia Orci & Asociados, Los Angeles.

Wells Fargo Taps San Antonio Agency

DALLAS—Wells Fargo has retained K. Fernandez &Associates to help implement a Hispanic marketingprogram in eight Western states. The San Antonio agency will work with its in-house creative boutique, A Big Chihuahua, to target both Mexican nationals and American Latinos for the bank. Campaign spending was not disclosed.

Marion, Montgomery Teams With Trainers

DALLAS—Ad agency Marion, Montgomery Inc. and training specialist InterAction Training Systems have created a joint venture to provide services to the financial industry. produces training videos and online forms which financial clients can offer to their customers. Marion, Montgomery executive Cheryl Hoffman has been named chief operating officer of the Houston-based joint venture.

SCA Expands Operations to Arkansas

DALLAS—SCA Promotions, a promotions and prize-guarantee firm, has opened an office in Bentonville, Ark., where major client Wal-Mart Stores is based. The office plans to provide risk management and marketing services to Wal-Mart’s suppliers. “By accessing the suppliers’ national promotional budgets, which is typically not done for the Wal-Mart accounts, we can generate excitement in the stores,” said new SCA director of national accounts Ron Watson. Dallas-based SCA, one of the nation’s largest prize promotional firms, has underwritten $11 billion in marketing risk since 1986.

Trum to Tout Residential Development

DALLAS—Trum Advertising has been appointed to handle advertising for Legendary Oaks, a master-planned community 45 minutes outside of Houston. The account is estimated in the low- to mid-six figures. Houston-based Trum will create television, newspaper and outdoor ads for the greater metropolitan area.

Arnold/Cipriani Kremer Gets Sappi Paper

BOSTON—Arnold Worldwide, pitching with its design unit Cipriani Kremer, has won advertising chores forSappi Fine Paper North America. Boston-based Arnold upended Toth Brand Imaging, Concord, Mass., and The Richards Group, Dallas. Siegelgale, New York, had previously worked for Sappi, also based in Boston. Spending was not disclosed, but the annual budget is believed to be in the low- to mid-seven figures. Ads will target art directors, graphic designers and related professionals.
