– Weinhard Brings Back Riney
NEW YORK–Miller Brewing is giving iconic beer brand Henry Weinhard its first significant support since 1997, bringing back adman Hal Riney and its earlier positioning as “the West’s first premium beer.” Radio and outdoor ads via Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, put a humorous spin on Western iconography. Observers said billings could exceed $2 million in the brand’s Northwest bastion.

DETROIT–Newer members of the Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America dealer associations will double their contribution to regional ad spending in 2000 under a deal worked out with the factory. The result should be 30 percent more regional spending–and as much as $30 million more in advertising–said Peg Dilworth-Hunt, Mitsubishi marketing communications director. WASHINGTON, D.C.–Foote, Cone & Belding has been tapped by The National Campaign Against Youth Violence, created by President Clinton after the Columbine High School shootings, to create PSAs. The San Francisco shop plans to have a pro-bono integrated campaign–print, radio, TV and online–completed by April.

LOS ANGELES–, a new dental referral Web site from Futuredontics, Santa Monica, Calif., launched a $31 million consumer ad campaign last week. A 30-second TV spot is airing in 57 markets, and next month the campaign goes national. The ads, from Creative Domain, Hollywood, Calif., are tied to Columbia Pictures’ Stuart Little, due out Dec. 17.

Hardee’s Food Systems, a division of Carl’s Jr. parent CKE Restaurants, has awarded the creative portion of its $100 million national advertising account to Johnson/Ukropina Creative Marketing, Irvine, Calif. The shop is the Rocky Mount, N.C., client’s third agency in two years. The Leap Partnership, Chicago, previously handled the business. …, an Internet startup, selected FCB Worldwide for its $30 million account, sources said. The Fountain Valley, Calif., client, which promises to make Web surfing more efficient, had narrowed its search to FCB, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Doner, Newport Beach, Calif. …, a construction-related document management Web site, awarded its ad account to FCB Worldwide, San Francisco. The client is a venture of Autodesk, San Rafael, Calif., an FCB client since 1997. Billings were undisclosed. … Young & Rubicam, San Francisco, was awarded the estimated $10-15 million General Magic account for its MyTalk consumer Web service.
