MCCANN AND FITZGERALD DEAL IN THE WORKS
ATLANTA-According to agency sources, the offices of McCann-Erickson and Fitzgerald & Co. here are discussing a merger/acquisition deal. McCann executive vice president and general manager Clisby Clarke and Fitzgerald president Dave Fitzgerald could not be reached for comment. McCann’s Atlanta office bills $90 million from clients including AFLAC Assurance Co., CARE and Coca-Cola. Fitzgerald bills about $49 million and lists AirTouch Cellular, Jerzees Apparel and the Tennessee Valley Authority as clients.
JAFFE APPOINTED EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CLIOS
NEW YORK-Andrew Jaffe has been appointed executive director of the Clio Awards, said Mark Dacey, president of Adweek Magazines and senior vice president of BPI Communications. Jaffe returns to BPI after leaving the company earlier this year to serve as president and managing partner of ConEx Management’s New York area office and executive director of d:tech. Jaffe had been at Adweek since 1985, serving as editor of the Southeast edition; as editorial director of all Adweek’s regional editions; and then as executive editor of Adweek’s seminar division, books, Media School and directories. As executive director of the Clios, Jaffe will supervise a staff of eight and be responsible for the growth of the brand globally. The Clio Awards is a unit of BPI’s Media Group.
INDIGO WINS ONLINE NEWS NETWORK
ATLANTA-Indigo group omnimedia (IGO), an interactive design agency in Arlington, Va., retained its first media services client in BTG, an information technology firm in Fairfax, Va. IGO will sell ad space, consult and create infomercial-type ads for firms advertising on the Government Insider, an online news network developed by BTG. Billings were not disclosed, but sources estimated the account at $1 million.
GREEN GAINS SOUTH FLORIDA GOLF COMMUNITY
ATLANTA-Wycliffe Golf & Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla., signed Green Advertising, Boca Raton, Fla., as agency of record for its $500,000 advertising and public relations account. Along with other undisclosed agencies, Green previously had worked with the client on a project basis.
DISCOVER MAGAZINE LAUNCHES HISPANIC EDITION
ATLANTA-Ideas & Capital Limited Co., publisher of Newsweek en Espa„ol, is issuing a Spanish-language Discover beginning this month in Latin America and in major U.S. Hispanic markets. Ideas & Capital in Miami also signed an agreement with Condƒ Nast to launch a Spanish version of Glamour next March.
