AT&T Marketing Chief To Meet with Shops
NEW YORK–Eugene Lockhart, newly appointed chief marketing officer at AT&T, is set to meet with roster shops Young & Rubicam and Foote, Cone & Belding here this week. During previous stints at both MasterCard and Bank of America, Lockhart spurred media reviews that resulted in new accounts for GSD&M, Austin, Texas [Adweek, Jan. 11]. AT&T consolidated its $500 million media account at Y&R’s The Media Edge last year.
MacManus Launches Media Giant
NEW YORK–The MacManus Group has officially launched its independent global media company, a move that has been in the works for more than one year. Irwin Gotlieb, who was president and chief executive of MacManus’ TeleVest media unit, became president and chief executive of the newly branded MediaVest Worldwide. The entity includes TeleVest and MacManus’ overseas media division, MediaVest, as well as the media units of D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and N.W. Ayer & Partners.
McCann to Buy Hollywood PR Shop
NEW YORK–A letter of intent has been signed under which Momentum Worldwide, the event marketing and promotions unit of McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, will acquire PMK, a public relations shop specializing in the entertainment business. Terms of the deal were undisclosed [Adweek, Jan. 25]. PMK owner Patricia Kingsley and her Los Angeles-based management team will report to Mark Dowley, chief executive of Momentum here. McCann’s parent, the Interpublic Group of Cos., owns Los Angeles talent agency Industry Entertainment.
Grey Unit Wins AlliedSignal Duties
NEW YORK–AlliedSignal has moved more than $15 million in media buying for its Autolite and Fram brands to MediaCom from Arnold Communications after a review, sources said. The Morristown, N.J., client opened a review for the consolidated account after it bought out Prestone last year. The contest pitted Prestone’s creative shop, MediaCom parent Grey Advertising here, against Arnold in Boston.
Creative and media planning stay with the incumbents. Client officials could not be reached by press time.

Dollar Rent A Car is set to move its $15 million account to Barkley Evergreen & Partners in Kansas City, Mo., without a review, sources said. A decision could come as early as this week. Earle Palmer Brown, Philadelphia, now handles the business, but the client is looking for a shop closer to its Tulsa, Okla., headquarters, sources said Heavy truck manufacturer Navistar International, Chicago, is contacting agencies about its $5-10 million account. The company said it had parted ways with Ogilvy & Mather, Chicago Partners & Shevack/Wolf has picked up $5 million in new business from Canandaigua Wine, including Cook’s Champagne and a new wine brand. The shop won the client’s Arbor Mist brand last fall.
