– Martin Among MangoSoft Semifinalists
BOSTON–MangoSoft Corp. is considering a half-dozen semifinalists in the review for its $20-25 million advertising account. The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., is competing against Mullen, Wenham, Mass.; Temerlin McClain, Irving, Texas; and three New York agencies, Doremus, Gotham and Grey Advertising, said Rick Hooker, who is overseeing the search for Pile and Co., the Boston consultancy. The client in Westborough, Mass., is looking for an agency to craft a mix of product and image ads. Currently, there is no agency on board. MangoSoft last worked with Welch Nehlen & Groome in Garden City, N.Y., primarily on trade print campaigns in the late 1990s. An agency decision is expected in late spring.
– Penney Chooses DDB Over Omnicom Stablemate
CHICAGO–DDB bested fellow Omnicom Group shop BBDO for J.C. Penney’s $200 million account. The account will be handled by DDB’s Chicago office and headed by Gary Moss, a former Pep Boys, Saatchi & Saatchi and Campbell Soup executive recruited by DDB for the Penney’s business. Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas, was the Dallas retailer’s incumbent shop.
– One Club Adds Mountjoy to Board of Directors
ATLANTA–Jim Mountjoy, executive vice president and creative director at Loeffler Ketchum Mountjoy, has been named to the board of directors of The One Club. The New York organization named the Charlotte, N.C., shop agency of record earlier this year.
– Miamians Launch Hometown Women Hoopsters
ATLANTA–Independent Branding Co. launched a $600,000 multimedia campaign for the inaugural season of the WNBA’s Miami Sol last week. The hometown shop’s print and outdoor work features players, accompanied by copy stating, “I will sacrifice my body to preserve my Sol” and “Mother of two. Queen of the three.”
– Buntin Group Installs Out-of-Home President
ATLANTA–Howard Greiner, founder and president of U.S. Outdoor Advertising, has been named president and chief operating officer of Buntin Out-of-Home Media. Previously a division of The Buntin Group in Nashville, Tenn., the company will now be a separate entity. Jeffrey Buntin Sr., will be chairman and chief executive officer. Buntin Out-of-Home Media recently added Cracker Barrel to its client roster.
– 4A’s Selects S.E. Finalists for O’Toole Awards
ATLANTA–The American Association of Advertising Agencies has chosen 49 finalists for the creative O’Toole Awards, with winners to be named May 12 in Bermuda. For Southeast agencies with more than $30 million in billings, Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Miami; Fitzgerald & Co., Atlanta; and The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., have been nominated. For shops with less than $30 million in billings, Bates USA/South, Miami; Freebairn & Co., Atlanta; and Lawler Ballard Van Durand, Birmingham, Ala., are finalists. Bates was also recognized in the multicultural category. CP&B, Fitzgerald and Atlanta’s Austin Kelley, Sawyer Riley Compton and WestWayne are finalists in the public service category.
