Pohly Buys Cadmus Publishing Unit
BOSTON–Diana Pohly, president of Cadmus Custom Publishing, has led a group that includes other company executives in a buyout of the Boston-based specialty publishing unit. Terms of the deal with parent Cadmus Communications Corp., Richmond, Va., were not disclosed. “Cadmus was going to sell the [publishing] business,” Pohly said. “It’s not part of their core strategy. They made me an offer.” Pohly intends to keep the 40-person publishing operation–which creates magazines, newsletters and direct materials for Continental Airlines, Blue Cross & Blue Shield and others–in Boston. The company is now called Pohly & Partners. Cadmus last week also sold its financial communications unit to R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Chicago. Cadmus chairman C. Stephenson Gillispie said his firm will now concentrate on growing its core businesses, which include catalog production, direct marketing and advertising services.
Arnold Enters Nick Pitch, Exits UPN
NEW YORK–Contenders emerged last week in the review for Nickelodeon’s $15 million branding assignment. Among those being considered by the Viacom unit for creative chores are: Arnold Communications and Smash Advertising, both Boston; The Geppetto Group, New York; Rubin Postaer & Associates, Santa Monica, Calif.; and at least 10 other shops from around the country, sources said. Separately, after initial discussions with executives at United Paramount Network, Arnold has decided not to pursue the client’s $20 million account, an agency official said. In the final round of the review are: Dweck & Campbell, New York; WestWayne, Atlanta; Kowloon Wholesale Seafood Co., Santa Monica, Calif.; and DDB Needham, Los Angeles, sources said.
Clarke Scores Willowbee, NaviMedix
BOSTON–Clarke Goward has been assigned ad chores for the Willowbee & Kent Travel Co. following a review of undisclosed shops. The agency will create print and direct campaigns supporting the Boston-based travel supply store. Separately, sister shop Clarke & Co. has been tapped as public relations agency for NaviMedix, a software firm providing Web-based applications to coordinate health plans and physicians offices.
Paratore Aims to ‘Stop the Hate’
BOSTON–Paratore & Hartshorn, a design and marketing firm here, has created a Web site, posters and pocket reference cards for the Governor’s Task Force on Hate Crimes that use the slogan, “Stop the hate.” The site (www.stopthehate.com) provides a forum for students to express their fears, share experiences and anonymously report hate crimes.
Cronin Appoints Direct Chief
BOSTON–Cronin & Co., Glastonbury, Conn., has named Lisa Zaccheo vice president and managing director of its direct marketing unit. The former account manager at Keiler & Co., Farmington, Conn., now reports to Cronin principal John Riccio.
