FCB Courts High-Profile U.K. Creative Director
SAN FRANCISCO–Foote, Cone & Belding is in talks to hire Tony Cox, executive creative director of BMP DDB, London, to serve as executive creative director of its San Francisco office, said sources. Cox would fill the post vacated by Paul Wolfe earlier this year and previously held by Mike Koelker, who passed away in 1995. Cox’s credits in the U.K. include work for Volkswagen, a long-running campaign for credit card Barclaycard starring comedian Rowan Atkinson and a recently launched global effort for Reuters. Cox and FCB executives in San Francisco did not return phone calls.
OgilvyOne Hires Windsor for Global Interactive
NEW YORK–OgilvyOne Worldwide has hired Anderson & Lembke’s Mike Windsor for the newly created post of president, global interactive, in its continuing efforts to bolster its worldwide integrated capabilities. Windsor, 43, will partner in large part with Carla Hendra, president of OgilvyOne’s flagship office in New York. Windsor and Hendra will both report to Reimer Thedens, chief executive of OgilvyOne Worldwide. Windsor was previously chief executive at A&L in San Francisco.
Lois/USA to Close L.A. Office
LOS ANGELES–Lois/USA, New York, announced last week it will close Lois/EJL here. Bob Stewart, chief financial officer of Lois/USA, said the office will be shuttered “within the next two weeks.” The agency intends to open a San Francisco office, said executives. Most of the Los Angeles office’s employees have already left or been given a severance package, said sources. The Los Angeles office lost its estimated $5 million Southern California Gas Co. business to Goldberg Moser O’Neill, San Francisco, earlier this year.
Sprint, Bergen Split After 8 Years
SAN FRANCISCO–As expected, Sprint has announced that Candice Bergen will no longer serve as its corporate spokesperson. The Kansas City, Mo.-based phone carrier has no immediate plans to replace the actress, who appeared in several campaigns from J. Walter Thompson West, San Francisco, over the past eight years.
Boston Direct Agency Enters San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO–Bronner Slosberg Humphrey, Boston, has established a new independent direct marketing and interactive shop here, tentatively called Sansome Group. The new agency will open its doors Jan. 1 with 40-50 staffers and clients including Charles Schwab and LA Cellular, according to Bronner executives.
