Grey Hands Musical Baton to Rabinowitz

NEW YORK WPP Group’s Grey said it has hired its first director of music.

Josh Rabinowitz joins Grey in New York in that role, effective immediately. He was previously executive music producer at Grey sibling Young & Rubicam, also in New York. He joined that shop in 1998, working on accounts such as Dr Pepper, Sony, MetLife and Danone.

In a statement, Grey North America chief creative officer Tim Mellors said, “With music integral to the success of all communications to consumers across all touch points today, it is the right time to create this important position at Grey. And it is the perfect time to have a top-of-the-line talent like Josh lead all our music efforts. He has phenomenal knowledge and respect in the music industry with numerous successes as producer, composer, bandleader, arranger and performer.”

Rabinowitz, 40, will report to Mellors and Nancy Axthelm, evp, director of production at the agency. His music production expertise can be heard on singles from Los Lonely Boys, Macy Gray and Alana Davis. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music.

Grey’s largest account is Procter & Gamble. The agency also has DQ, Frontier Airlines, BellSouth, Kmart and Olive Garden as clients.
