GOING FOR GAMES

Olympians perform athletic feats amid busy Manhattan settings in a new TV campaign that broke last week for NYC2012, an organization dedicated to bringing the 2012 Summer Olympics to New York.

In one of four 30-second spots from Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York, gold medalists Bart Connor and Nadia Comaneci impress onlookers with gymnastic routines in New York’s Washington Square Park. Another shows fencers dueling it out for a cab opposite Rockefeller Center.

The spots aim to generate excitement among New Yorkers, leading up to the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Nov. 2 decision, which will determine if New York or San Francisco will bid the games internationally.

“Every day, this city has its own Olympic parallel with the way New Yorkers compete on every level,” said Kirshenbaum executive creative director Logan Wilmont. The tagline is the same one that appeared in a summer print effort: “We’ve been training for this forever.”

The spots were directed by Gregg Hale (The Blair Witch Project) of Chelsea Pictures. Local talent, media houses, production companies and unions donated their services to produce the spots. Media will also be donated by local networks.
