Mind Control is marching north.

The St. Petersburg, Fla., creative boutique, founded by former Young & Rubicam New York executives Sharon and Bob MaHarry three years ago, is openinga satellite office in Roanoke, Va.

“We believe the timing is ideal for a right-sized, strategically savvy creative shop in the fast-growing Roanoke Valley area,” said Bob MaHarry.

The agency’s overall strategy is to build presence in regional markets without building excessive infrastructure.

The couple will partner with Tommy Holcomb Productions, which will provide clients with radio, television, music and interactive media production services.

Mind Control, which intends to use its new office in southwestern Virginia as a base to pursue business across the mid-Atlantic region, will avoid the intensely competitive Richmond, Va., area.

The Roanoke Valley, which includes the city of Roanoke and nearby Blacksburg, W.Va., is rapidly moving beyond its traditional rural economy. The region, however, remains underserved by ad agencies, a situationthe MaHarrys are hoping to exploit.
