As Diesel continues to push itself as a higher-end designer clothing line rather than just a jeansmaker, the first round of ads out of boutique Paris agency Euro RSCG 27 (it split with 4-year incumbent KesselsKramer in Amsterdam in April) focuses on a staple fashion ad topic: sex. The Fall/Winter 2005 campaign, shot by high-end fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, features seven print ads and four billboards depicting blow-up dolls in the form of Russian stacking dolls, and a woman straddling a bear rug with a ball gag in its mouth, among other images. “For us, it’s important to combine beautiful, luxurious execution with the signature Diesel spirit, which is very unconventional and tongue-and- cheek,” said Antonella Viero, Diesel head of communications. Ads broke in August issues of magazines including Fader, Paper, Elle, Vogue and Jane.
