Connecticut makes three

Connecticut has become the third New England state in recent weeks to launch anti-smoking ads. The Office of Policy and Management is breaking broadcast, print and outdoor ads distributed by the Centers for Disease Control. Efforts are tagged with the national “Truth” line used in The American Legacy Foundation anti-smoking effort.

Later in the year, the state will add movie theater executions to the effort, according to OCM representative Maraide Sullivan. Though they did not create the advertising, two Connecticut agencies are involved in other capacities. North Castle Partners, Stamford, Conn., is evaluating the campaign’s educational efforts, which include a fourth- and fifth-grade curriculum via a CD-ROM created by Training Solutions Interactive, Atlanta. North Castle also consulted with OPM on Web site development.

Alden Event Productions, Bristol, Conn., was in charge of media planning and buying.

The Connecticut campaign coincides with efforts by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Vermont’s Department of Health to promote anti-smoking messages
