Common carmen

If you’ve always fantasized about enjoying an opera under the stars, now you can.

Liquid Fire has launched a marketing campaign touting the Boston Lyric Opera’s Carmen on the Common, an outdoor production of George Bizet’s famed operaset in Spain.

A black-and-red illustration of Carmen, the opera’s passionate heroine, is featured in print ads, street-lamp banners and transit executions, which are running Boston.

“So hot, we took it outside” is the tagline.

“We felt it critical to position Carmen on the Common as an event, rather than an opera,” said Wayne Fritsche, partner and account manager at the Boston shop. “Our Carmen is everywhere, and her appeal is especially powerful among people who might otherwise never consider attending an opera.”

An animated segment has been developed into a television spot, which will air on WGBH, a sponsor of the production.

Carmen will be performed on the Boston Common Sept. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m.
