ATLANTA Six agencies have advanced in the review of Cellular South’s $8-12 million account, sources said.

The contenders are independents WestWayne in Atlanta, archer>malmo in Memphis, Tenn., and Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago; Interpublic Group’s Mullen in Winston-Salem, N.C., MDC Partners’ Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami ; and Havas’ Arnold in McLean, Va.

Agencies are presenting this week at the client’s headquarters in Jackson, Miss., according to sources. The company is expected to make a cut to four finalists the first week in January. A decision is expected in January.

Incumbent Fletcher Martin Ewing, an MDC Partners shop in Atlanta, has declined to defend the account, which it has held for five years.

Officials at Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif., which is conducting the review, refused to comment. Agency executives also declined comment.

Cellular South operates in Mississippi, coastal Alabama and Florida, and in Memphis. It has licenses to provide service in Arkansas, but has not yet moved into that market.
