BVK Acquires Hispanic Agency

Seeking to connect its clients to the Spanish-speaking market, BVK/McDonald in Milwaukee has purchased The Meka Group, an $18 million Hispanic marketing communications agency in Miami.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Meka office will be renamed BVK/Meka, and will service existing clients of both firms. It will also serve as headquarters for BVK’s domestic Hispanic and pan-regional accounts.
“We were working on Tenet Healthcare when BVK won its national business, and we started a working relationship about a year ago,” said Meka founder Manuel Machado. “At the beginning of this year we realized the Tenet business would be growing to accommodate the West Coast and Texas, and we saw opportunities for new business and we started talking.”
“For a lot our our clients, the Hispanic market is very important, and they don’t want to be going to two shops,” said Michael Voss, president and chief executive officer of BVK/McDonald, headquartered in Glendale, Wis. The agency’s network includes offices in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, Fla., and other markets.
“[BVK] has offices in major Hispanic markets, which made things really exciting,” Machado said. “It levels the playing field and gives us an opportunity to have resources and infrastructure available to go after new business.”
Meka’s clients include Kahlua, Nickelodeon Latin American, United Family Communications (The Family Channel) and Wackenhut.
