Askew Steps Down At Coors

Ron Askew, CMO of Coors Brewing, is leaving the company on Dec. 14, a client rep confirmed. “It was Ron’s decision,” the rep said. Askew, who could not be reached, joined the $180 million advertiser in 2001 from Omnicom’s Integer Group. Among his major moves were adding IPG’s Deutsch and Havas’ Arnold to the roster to join Coors’ longtime agency, IPG’s Foote Cone & Belding. (Arnold was later dropped.)

Deadline Extended for WPP/Grey

NEW YORK WPP has 11 months instead of nine to complete its $1.3 billion acquisition of Grey Global Group, according to a filing the company made with the SEC on Dec. 1. The companies were notified by the European Union last month that information they submitted for regulatory compliance was incomplete, pushing the deadline for a closing date to August 2005 instead of June. Holding-company execs, however, expect a deal to become final in the first quarter. A Grey rep declined comment on the filing. WPP executives were unavailable.

F-H Apology Demanded in L.A.

boston Los Angeles controller Laura Chick last week demanded an apology from Omnicom’s Fleishman-Hillard during a city-council hearing concerning her recent audit of the agency. The demand comes two weeks after Chick’s audit of the L.A. office of F-H found that the PR firm overbilled the city’s Department of Water and Power by $4.2 million from 1998 to 2003. F-H was not available for comment.
