AMV Group’s Baulk to Retire

NEW YORK Michael Baulk, chairman, CEO of AMV Group, of which AMV BBDO is a unit, said he would retire effective July 1.

Baulk, 62, is a 20-year veteran of the Omnicom Group-owned London agency where he began as CEO in 1986.

AMV BBDO and Proximity London chairman Cilla Snowball will succeed him, adding the titles chairman, CEO of AMV Group to her ongoing responsibilities.

BBDO worldwide CEO Andrew Robertson said in a statement, “I first worked with Michael in 1982. He inspired me with the possibilities of the business. And it is fair to say that there have been thousands of moments since then when I have found myself thinking, ‘How would Michael play this?’ And that won’t change when he retires.”

Robertson also called Baulk a “talent magnet,” whose skill at developing bench strength in the London group made it easy to arrange his succession.

Snowball, 47, reports to chairman, CEO of BBDO Europe William Eccleshare. He was named to the post last year from WPP Group-owned Young & Rubicam as CEO of its Europe, Middle East and Africa region, but did not join until late January to fulfill contractual obligations.

In a statement, Eccleshare, 50, praised Snowball’s 14 years at the agency and called her promotion “well deserved.”

He added, “It marks the recognition of one of our industry’s stellar talents. I am delighted that she has agreed to take on the job in addition to her roles at AMV and Proximity London, where she continues to be a key member of the leadership team. AMV Group is fortunate in having great depth of talent and this transition is testimony to that.”

AMV BBDO’s clients include Guinness, Sainsbury, British Telegraph and Homebase.
