ARIZONA Alpern Ad-Hoc, a marketing communications agency in Scottsdale, added the account of Clinical Health Institute of Arizona. The Rita Sanders Agency, an advertising and public relations firm in Phoenix, has been retained by SCUM Enterprises to launch its "Scum Club" and promote its host of products and services, which are "specially created for unworthy men." COLORADO McCarthy Advertising in Boulder has been hired by Old Chicago Restaurants in Denver to develop radio ads and print material in support of their 1998 Major League Baseball All-Star Game promotion. The agency has also been retained by New Hope Natural Media. Marketing strategies company Looking Glass in Denver has formed an alliance with market research firm Scarborough Research, also in Denver. Brozena & Schaller and Associates in Denver and its I/O Communications Network unit have been combined to form Brozena Schaller Menaker & Ripley. The Volant Ski Company in Denver selected Barnhart/CMI Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations, also in Denver, as its agency of record. NORTHERN CALIFORNIA Eclipse International hired Lighthouse Advertising & Design in Santa Clara to handle all of its advertising and marketing needs. The Leapfrog Group in San Francisco has been retained by 1st Silicon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a newly formed Malaysian company that will provide deep submicron silicon integrated circuit fabrication. Flora, a natural health products maker, selected Fineman Associates Public Relations as its public relations agency of record. The San Francisco shop has also picked up business from Foster Farms Dairy and Covent Garden Soup Company. OREGON In a joint venture with Mercedes-Benz of North America, auto dealerships Phil Smart of Seattle and Barrier Motors of Bellevue selected The Coates Agency in Portland to handle advertising and public relations. The shop also picked up ad duties for The High Desert Museum in Bend. TriAd, a Bend-based marketing, advertising and public relations firm, recently redesigned and upgraded Black Butte Ranch's Web site. The shop also produced Sunriver Resort's in-room directory and has been hired to design and implement a statewide public relations and marketing plan for Strut (Students Recycling Used Technology). Portland advertising agency fuel, Inc. has produced three TV spots for local radio station Z100. Sandstrom Design in Portland fashioned a new identity for FilmCore, a film and editing company. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Kaufman Patricof Enterprises, an entertainment and media internet productions company, is opening a Los Angeles office. Taffetdesign, a broadcast and promotion design company, has opened new offices in Santa Monica. The Blaze Co., a marketing communications and public relations firm in Venice, has been retained by the Fine Art Dealers Association to handle marketing communications for the 4th annual Los Angeles Art Show. Oxford & Drozda Advertising in San Diego has been renamed The Oxford Group. DataTech Depot has selected Media Dimensions in Irvine as its public relations and interactive agency. Hollywood-based Planet Blue has opened an office in Santa Monica, offering high-end visual effects and animation for commercials. Bailey/Gardiner Creative Communications in San Diego added the Viejas Outlet Center, Sprint PCS and The Harbor Club to its client list. Forsythe Marcelli Johnson Advertising in Newport Beach was named agency of record for CardioGenesis Corp., Sunnyvale. Drasnin Communications in Del Mar was selected by Trader Publications and Players Sports Grill to provide a variety of public relations and advertising services. UTAH Politis Communications, Draper, has entered into a public relations services agreement with Murray, an I-Sim corporation that develops driving simulation equipment. WASHINGTON Cole & Weber's interactive group in Seattle was hired to design the first Web site for Seattle-based Corixa Corp., a research-based biotechnology company. Horton Lantz Marocco, a Seattle-based advertising and creative services agency, recently created a brand brochure, trade advertising campaign and sales video for AEI Music and developed a new identity package for Seattle ad agency Copacino.
