3-Way Contest for Belk’s Radio, TV

ATLANTA Belk Department Stores is considering three agencies in the Southeast for the creative broadcast portion of its estimated $20 million account, sources said.

The contenders are The Leslie Agency in Greenville, N.C., Barber Martin in Richmond, Va., and Wit in Atlanta, according to sources. A decision is expected next week.

Print advertising and media buying are handled internally by the Charlotte, N.C., merchant.

Privately held Belk operates 200 stores in 13 states, primarily in the Carolinas and Georgia. The 111-year-old retailer competes with mid-priced department stores such as McRaes.
