Jobless Claims Remain High After Verizon Strike Ends
It’s now been two weeks since the striking Verizon workers returned to their jobs and unemployment claims have not fallen one whit; the Department of Labor reported 414,000 new claims for the week ended Sept. 3, up 2,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 412,000.
Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted a drop to 405,000.
As of the week ended Aug. 20, the most recent week data were available, 7.2 million Americans were receiving some form of unemployment benefits.
