Quote of Note | David Bailey
“In 1961, I was asked by Vogue to photograph Maurice Chevalier in Paris, and [Irving] Penn was a bystander on the shoot. Chevalier was giving me a hard time. He turned to me and said, ‘You don’t look like a photographer. You look like a pop singer.’ Straight away, Penn turned to Chevalier and said, ‘You don’t look like a pop singer, you look like a grumpy old man.’ I was quite shocked!”
–David Bailey, who Penn nicknamed “Beetle Bailey”
