Passengers on some Amtrak trains can now belly up to the bar for a beer and then surf the Internet.

Since Jan. 23,select cafe and coach railway cars have been equipped with Compaq computers that enable travelers to check Web sites and e-mails.

Participating routes include the Acela Regional in the Northeast, the Capitols in Northern California and the Hiawatha in the Midwest.

The e-cars are distinguished by purple and yellow Yahoo wraps, emblazoned with an invitation to “Hop in, hop on.”
