Pathmark Stores Inc. says it plans to invest $150 million in a new advertising and branding campaign, an expanded ethnic marketing program and a 35-store redevelopment program. The supermarket chain, which posted a net loss of $20.5 million for the fiscal year ending Feb. 3, narrowly escaped bankruptcy earlier this year following a decision by the FTC not to allow Dutch-based supermarket retailer Royal Ahold to purchase the company.

Pathmark operates 143 supermarkets primarily in the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia metropolitan areas.
