NEW YORK — McCann-Erickson Worldwide laid off 40 staffers on Tuesday (May 15), a result of clients’ curtailing their spending.

The cuts, effective immediately, are across all disciplines at the New York offices of the advertising agency and its media arm Universal McCann, which combined, have approximately 1,300 employees.

A McCann spokeswoman confirmed the layoffs but would not comment on which clients were pulling back on spending. The agency, owned by the Interpublic Group of Cos.,
