Lieberman Introduces "Marketing Accountability" Bill

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) today introduced the Media Marketing Accountability Act of 2001, which he says will penalize companies in the entertainment industry “that market sex and violence to kids.”

The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Herb Kohl, (D-Wis.), would expand the FTC’s authority to crack down on businesses that engage in “false and deceptive advertising practices.” Under the bill, entertainment companies found to be marketing adult material to minors would be subject to fines of $11,000 per day.
