HP, RealNetworks To Produce Digital Products

Two high-tech Goliaths, Hewlett-Packard and online music service RealNetworks, are teaming up to create digital entertainment products that will allow consumers to download and personalize music and streaming video in their living rooms.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based HP will create hardware other than PCs on which people can watch streaming video and listen to music over the RealPlayer, RealNetworks’ streaming media player. “They’re digital entertainment products as opposed to a PC,” said John Musaus, product manager for consumer appliances at Seattle-based RealNetworks.
