Facebook is lifting its ban on political advertising that the social media giant instituted after the polls closed on Election Day in November. Google lifted a similar ban last week, which was put in place following the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
The ad bans have restricted the ability of numerous U.S. campaigns, social interest groups and other advocacy operations from promoting posts on Facebook in recent months. Even the pivotal U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia, which eventually handed the control of Congress to Democrats in January, were cut off from advertising until mid-December.
